Atsushi Yamada is currently a specially appointed associate professor at the department of research and development for innovative medical devices and systems, Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan. He received the PhD degree in engineering from Nagoya Institute of Technology in 2008, Japan. He was a research associate at department of radiology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, from 2011 to 2013. He was a specially appointed assistant professor at department of surgery, Shiga University of Medical Science in 2013. He has received awards including the silver prize of CAS Young Investigator Award, Japan Society of Computer Aided Surgery in 2019, and the Awards for Science and Technology in the Development Category, The Commendation for Science and Technology by Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in 2022. His research interests include medical instruments and robotic systems based on flexible mechanisms and image-guided navigation systems.
